Bronze in circular form representing "la musa della pittura" ("The Muse of Painting"). The signature of the sculptor is at the bottom of this piece - F. Giulianotti, Rome, 1898. The artist was born in Genoa in 1852 and died in Rome on March 5, 1903. He was a pupil of Varni and Scanzi in Genoa and it was there that he created his first pieces, the most famous of which are the bust of Mazzini and the Christopher Columbus. For the princely table on grand occasions, multi-light candelabras functioned as the primary source of illumination and suggested a theme of luxury and fine entertainment. Our two matching examples rest on a pedestal with a square base and are elevated by a stand in full relief, enriched with leaves of acanthus, volutes, palmettes, and stylized trefoils. The six arms open like the corolla of a flower to five petals and a central pistil. In current design schemes, candelabras rest on servantes, on the sides of a hearth, and on mirrored consoles. Sculpted and gilded over fire, and entirely original, the two pieces are unmistakable for the purity of line and are certainly attributable to Paris in the early years of the nineteenth century (1804-1815). Pair of candelabras in gilt bronze. France, First Empire. Possible work of the shop of Thomir, the great bronzesmith.

XIX (1804-1815) a Parigi. Coppia di candelabri in bronza dorato. Francia, Primo Impero.
